A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
