Followers Call for Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the actress are calling for that a man who breached a barricade and seized the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage depicts the Australian man bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the cast proceeded down a event pathway accompanied by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being detained", though court documents indicated that he was set to appear on the following morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram account includes recordings of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user questioned.
Fans Express Concern Over Ariana's Safety
Several fans blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed dealing with PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further response on Instagram.
Several supporters also questioned event staff at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals requested online networks to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked startled when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
