Grief as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation struggling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose of the shooting has not been established and no one has been arrested are in custody, as per the official statement.
Details of the Attack
Law enforcement revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a premises near the Carlton Centre.
He had devoted time at the site managing the setup of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, it was reported.
"The report indicates the deceased was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," a police statement stated.
Security camera video reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocked hair and clad in what resembled a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before running away.
The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the incident.
Important clues, like cartridges, were found at the location.

Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to come forward.
"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the attack, and investigators have been tracking them to find their location," remarked an authority figure.

His sister, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to process his death.
"I am in shock. I don't have words," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were ready to speak about. This is a devastating blow."
