Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd would leave the hospital, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “However, I can share, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims were reported.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was expected to be an important component of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
