Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" following an exchange with a TV crew member in the wake of the Citizens' 2-1 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday.

At full time, a visibly upset Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and had heated discussions with the referee, Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I said sorry," the manager remarked. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, looking back. It's not acceptable. I immediately apologized to the cameraman. That's just me. After 1,000 games I'm far from perfect, I make huge mistakes."

"What is for sure, I stand by my team and club, without a doubt. The reason why I want to defend my team is no doubt – because from my experience to win the Premier League we need near-perfect totals, high nineties, or we fall short."

City's Position and Manager's Take

City are third and trail leaders Arsenal by seven points after what was their fourth league defeat of the season. "Losing four games out of 12 means we must do better," Guardiola admitted. "Technically, we can still achieve all."

Exchange with Bruno

Guardiola would not be concerned if an opposition manager addressed his squad immediately after a game. "No - as long as it's respectful like I always have done, it's fine," he noted, before referencing Barrott. "He was part of it throughout the match, constantly. Goodness, very much so."

Controversial Decisions

City were unhappy that Barrott or the VAR did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle on Phil Foden, while they also questioned if Guimarães was offside on Barnes' goal Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Pictures published later indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Next Big Match

Guardiola will take charge of his 100th Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen this week. "That's impressive, it means that every season annually," he commented.

City have 10 points after four games in the group, while Leverkusen have five.
