PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
