Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will Conclude... For Now.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that Pluribus would turn into a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the acclaimed program wrapping up—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Fan Response

One could easily to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and fan theories regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to avoid both.

“It's like being force fed hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Will the showrunner Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering the writers are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “but we are always ready to abandon a decent plan for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
